There are two types of plants which are very similar in nature but they differ in their type of root system. They are known as vascular and non-vascular plants.
Vascular plants
These are the plants which have roots and leaves. The roots provide water to the plant and also help it to take nutrients from the soil. Leaves are for photosynthesis and there are some more common examples are trees, herbs, grasses, ferns, etc.
Non-vascular plants
These are the plants which don’t have roots and leaves. They need the sunlight to perform photosynthesis. These are the common examples are mosses, lichens, liverworts, algae, etc.
