The most common causes of arterial diseases include smoking, hypertension, atherosclerosis, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, and obesity.

They are the one who diagnose and treat the vascular diseases, and they are also called as vascular surgeons. The vascular surgeons are specialists in dealing with the diseases that affect the blood vessels and arteries.

What are the duties of a vascular doctor?

After diagnosing the condition of the patient, they refer the patient to the other specialists. This is because it is not possible for the vascular surgeon to handle all the aspects of the vascular disease, so they refer the patients to the other doctors for proper treatment.

  • Carotid endarterectomy
  • Carotid artery stenting
  • Angioplasty

Carotid endarterectomy is the most common procedure that is performed by the vascular surgeon. They are the one who perform the surgery in the arteries of the neck. These arteries carry blood to the brain, and if they become narrow due to the plaque buildup, then it can cause the stroke.

Vascular surgeons are also the one who perform the bypass surgery. The patient’s arteries are narrowed and blocked due to the buildup of plaque. If it is not removed then it can cause the heart attack or a stroke. In this situation, the bypass surgery is done by the vascular surgeon, where the arteries are joined together to make a new pathway.
