How To Tell If Your Fitbit’s Blaze Battery Needs Replacing

Blog

Your fitbit trackers have a battery that lasts for 1-2 years. However, it’s important to know when this battery needs replacing so you don’t run out of juice while you are on your daily walk, run or workout.

In this post, I will show you how to tell if your fitbit’s battery needs replacing.

What is a battery?

A battery is an electrochemical cell made up of two electrodes (usually positive and negative) separated by an electrolyte. Energy is stored in the battery when electrons from the positive electrode are attracted to the negative electrode by the electrolyte. This process is called ionic bonding.

When you put a battery into a circuit, it provides a current (in milliamps) that is directly proportional to the number of ions that flow through the battery’s electrolyte.

What does this mean for you?

Simply put, if your fitbit’s battery needs replacing, it will stop providing current and thus stop tracking your activity. You can either replace the battery yourself or send your tracker in for service.

The Battery Is Dead!

Here’s what else you need to know: If you replace your battery yourself, make sure you use only an exacto knife or a similar tool to remove it. Attempting to pry the battery out with a screwdriver or some other tool could cause the internal parts of your tracker to break.

Replacing the battery yourself is easy. First, remove the two tiny Phillips screws on the back of the tracker. Then, remove the four plastic tabs that hold the battery in place. Finally, remove the battery and put in in its place. It should snap right into place. Now, re-assemble the tracker and you are good to go!

If you send your tracker in for service, the fitness center staff will check to see if the battery needs replacing and if it does… they will replace it for you. It’s important to keep in mind though… sending your tracker in for service is NOT the same as having a battery replaced by you. You see, when you send your tracker in for service, there is a chance the fitness center may try to sell you more than just a new battery. They may also replace some other part of the tracker such as the display or the heart rate monitor. If this happens, you could end up with a new tracker instead of a new battery.

In Conclusion

How To Tell If Your Fitbit’s Battery Needs Replacing: The easiest way to tell if your fitbit’s battery needs replacing is simply to look at the battery icon on the home screen. If the battery icon is greyed out, this means the battery is dead. If the battery is not dead, then there is a small chance it will need replacing in the future. Either way, it’s best to be safe than sorry so replace it yourself.
